Kangaroo Care

Take time to do your research! The best place for a baby after it is born (if a baby healthy and does not need emergency medical assistance) is to be laid directly on its mother's chest, skin to skin, and stay there (if possible). When this is not possible (perhaps in the case of a cesarean) the next best place for baby is on its father's chest, skin to skin. This enhances bonding with the baby and its parents, stimulates the rooting reflex to search for the mother's nipple, and also keeps baby at the perfect temperature. Dr. Nils Bergman, researcher and physician, has found that skin to skin contact between mother and baby (Kangaroo Mother Care, or KMC) improved the conditions of pre-mature infants up to 5 times when compared with their prior condition. His work has improved the lives of many babies in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and around the world. Consider having skin to skin contact with your baby as soon as possible, and find out the other wonderful benefits of this kind of care on Dr. Nils Berman's website. http://www.kangaroomothercare.com/
