The March of Dimes has recently been campaigning to make mothers aware that a baby born at 35 weeks is not the same as a baby born at 39 weeks or later. Some hospitals allow mothers to induce labor starting as early as 35 weeks, and I know some mothers that have been offered an induction at their 39 week appointment. Babies usually know best about when a good time to arrive is, without a chemical induction telling them what to do. At 35 weeks, babies brains are still developing, as well as their lung function. At 39 weeks, a baby can better regulate his or her temperature, and has less problems with vision and hearing. Another important factor to consider is that your "due date" may be off by a couple of weeks!
Please give your baby as much time as he or she needs to keep developing in your protective womb until the baby gives the go ahead, or until medically necessary to do otherwise.
Be informed!! Please read more information at http://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnancy/getready_atleast39weeks.html.
